There are a lot of tools that turn a photo into something cartoon-shaped. This page is about what is actually different here, including the parts that are not flattering. If you want a one-click filter for a profile picture, some of the alternatives are faster and cheaper than this.
The same photo produces a different comic in each. Switching style costs nothing before you pay.

Classic comicMost photo-to-cartoon tools return one stylised image. Cartoon It writes a short narrative and draws it as sequential panels with dialogue, using the people from your photos as the cast. That is a different product: worse if you wanted an avatar in five seconds, better if you wanted something with a beginning and an end that someone would keep.
The full comic is generated and shown to you first. There is no credit to spend before you know whether it worked, no account to create, and no subscription. If the likeness is wrong you close the tab and it has cost you nothing — which also means the free tier costs us a real model call every time, and is the main reason the preview is degraded rather than clean.
Pricing is per comic: $3.99 for a single page up to $11.99 for a three-page story with a custom cover. Nothing recurs, there is no credit pack to top up, and nothing is stored to bill against later. For a one-off gift that is usually cheaper than a month of a subscription tool you would cancel afterwards.
Likeness degrades with crowd size — beyond three or four people in a frame, faces start to generalise, and the manga style is the worst offender because heavy ink and screentones bury fine detail. Text inside panels is drawn by an image model, so lettering is occasionally imperfect. Pages are around 1,200 pixels tall: sharp at A5, fine at A4, not a print-shop master. If you need poster-size output or guaranteed typography, this is not the right tool.
Uploads are passed to the model in the request and never written to disk. The finished comic is held in private storage for 24 hours purely so it can be delivered to you — including if your browser closes mid-payment — and is then deleted automatically whether or not it was bought. There is no customer database and no long-term copy of anything you make.
A filter re-colours the pixels of your photo and keeps the pose and background. This generates a new illustration with your likeness, composed into panels with a story, so the result is not a version of your photograph.
For occasional use, yes. The four one-time prices are $3.99, $5.99, $7.99 and $11.99, and nothing renews or needs cancelling. A subscription is only cheaper if you generate continuously — for a single comic made as a gift, one charge is the entire cost.
You see it before paying, so you simply do not pay. Once unlocked, purchases are non-refundable except where a page you paid for could not be drawn, which we refund in full.
Yes. A paid download is yours for personal or commercial use — prints, cards, merchandise, social profiles — provided you had the right to use the photos you uploaded. The free preview is watermarked and is not licensed for use; only the paid file is.
